We're on our way to the southeast corner of Sicily to stay in the Siracusa/Ortygia area. Siracusa was founded by the Greeks in 733 BC and became one of the most important Greek colonies.
Ortygia is a small island connected to Siracusa by 2 bridges and once, with its fortress, protected the entry to Siracusa. Today, it is a quaint little town with great history and the home of many artists.
The countryside in the center of the island is quite beautiful and diverse.

Arrival at apartment in Ortygia
Piazza Archimede
located in the center of Ortygia.
The Piazza honors one of the great scientists of antiquity - Archimedes, who lived in Siracusa.
Our apartment is located in the small building between the 2 larger ones.

Uhh Ohh, have we made a mistake?
Like Palermo, our apartment is beautifully situated in Ortygia and the kitchen is large and well equipped. Plus, we had many wonderful conversations with our helpful hostess, Roberta.
We quickly left for the market and bought supplies for dinner -
sautéed chicken with white wine, black olives and tomatoes over basmati rice.
Then an evening walk to the Duomo and the main shopping area.
Tomorrow is Palm Sunday and beautiful, huge chocolate eggs appeared in store windows.
