Taormina is a beautiful, colorful town with grand views of Mt. Etna.
This picture reveals the diverse terrain.
Mt. Etna was quite active while we were there and was always spewing smoke or lava.

Taormina sits on Mount Tauro overlooking the Ionian Sea and Calabria, which is 20 miles from Taormina across the Messina Straits. However, to the north in Messina (about 10 miles) the distance narrows to 3 miles.
After Siracusa declined, Taormina became the capital of Byzantine Sicily. Today it is Sicily's most popular tourist resort.

This is a view to the north with Calabria (a southern province of mainland Italy) across the water.
Now to see the town...
First, the main street in town - Corso Umberto I. It runs the full length of the town and is comparable to our American pedestrian only streets.
Commercial delivery trucks are permitted only before 9 a.m.
EVERY day we walked the full length (about 3/4- 1 mile one way) to go to the market. Judi just loved window shopping and a trip of normally 20 minutes took 30, if we didn't stop!!
The main square - Piazza IX Aprile
Notice the mountains in the background. Before we leave, Judi will walk to the top of the right peak.
Marzipan shaped as fruit.
Red Riding Hood
It's Easter weekend and the Taormina shops are selling giant chocolate eggs.
You haven't seen any of our dinner photos recently, so here's one....
