Thursday, March 28 - Travel to Taormina

Taormina here we come!

Our tour of Sicily has been wonderful and we feel so comfortable because of the people we've met, particularly Ignazio and Maria who continued to look after us and called to check on how things were going in Ortygia.

We travelled by train for about 2 hours along the eastern coast of Sicily - from Ortygia/Siracusa, through Catania and on to Taormina.

Not a great picture, but our first glimpse of Catania's suburbs and Mt. Etna.

Part of the old Catania harbor

Catania coastline and Mt. Etna in the distance.  Look for the snow-capped peak among the clouds.

Below is the Taormina train station where we were met by Francesco and Ferdinand Scavo, our new hosts.

Francesco and Ferdinand then drove us up to Taormina.
What a wonderful welcome.  They made our arrival so easy and comfortable.
Grazie Francesco e Ferdinando!!

The train station is on the left at the base of the mountain and Taormina is on the right.
